Official Draw Announced for the 26th Edition of the Dubai Golf Trophy
Friday 9th May 2025; Dubai, United Arab Emirates: The UAE’s most prestigious golfing event is set to make its return on 11th and 12th May, with the 26th edition of the Dubai Golf Trophy taking place at the Championship Course at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club and the Majlis Course at Emirates Golf Club.
The two-day Ryder Cup-style tournament will once again see the top 16 UAE-based professionals go head-to-head with the top 16 amateurs in what promises to be a thrilling close to the 2024-2025 golf season.
Founded in 2000 as a social season-ending competition at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club, the Dubai Golf Trophy has grown significantly in scale and reputation, now considered a standout event in the UAE’s golfing calendar. Rotated annually between Dubai Golf’s five championship courses including the Faldo and Majlis at Emirates Golf Club, Earth and Fire at Jumeirah Golf Estates, and the Championship Course at Dubai Creek, the event continues to unite the region’s most talented golfers.
This year’s competition will, once again, feature 12 automatic qualifiers from the UAE PGA and Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) circuits, four wild card selections, and two female players in a dedicated Ladies Challenge Match.
Chris May, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Golf and Viya Golf Abu Dhabi, said, “Each year, we see top professionals and amateurs across the region work to earn their place on the team for this event. It’s a privilege to support an initiative that plays such a key role in the development of professional golf in the UAE. The enthusiasm from both teams is always fantastic, as they come together to showcase their skills and round off a demanding season of EGF and UAE PGA Order of Merit tournaments. Having hosted this event for the past 26 years, we’re incredibly proud of its legacy and look forward to what promises to be two outstanding days of competitive golf.”
Leading the teams this year are Graham Forbes as 2025 Professional Captain and Dan Byrne as Amateur Captain.
Graham Forbes commented, “It’s extremely exciting to be captaining the Professional team this year. I’ve had a lot of advice from last year’s captain, Louis Gaughan, and great support from my Vice Captain, Sujjan Singh, to come up with the best plan into this year’s event. We have an amazing team with great talent and I’m confident we have got what it takes to take this year’s victory with great spirits between both teams.”
With the amateur team having retained the title in 2024 following a 16-16 draw, and after winning in 2023, they now look to extend their winning streak to a third consecutive year.
Dan Byrne shared, “Having played in the past five editions, it’s a real privilege to captain the amateur side this year. We’ve got a youthful and talented squad, and I’m excited to see how they rise to the challenge. I’ve been impressed by the quality across this season’s EGF circuit, and while I expect another tightly contested match, I truly believe our team has what it takes to keep the momentum going.”
The professionals will be looking to draw on past success. Their most recent win came in 2022, the last time the Trophy was contested across both the Majlis and Championship Courses.
Graham added, “On the last rotation playing Dubai Creek on day one and Majlis on day two, the professionals came out on top. We’re really excited to play these two courses again with a great professional team this year, and we’re confident we can do it again after our narrow miss last year.”
This year’s Dubai Golf Trophy tees off on Sunday 11th May with morning Foursomes and afternoon Fourball matches at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club. The event will conclude on Monday 12th May with singles matches played on the Majlis Course at Emirates Golf Club.
