Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Sunday 3rd October; The World-renowned Emirates Golf Club has reopened the iconic Majlis course this weekend after a summer of extensive renovations to the green and tee complexes.

The course, best known for staging the annual Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic which has seen the likes of golfing superstars such as Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, to international celebrities like Will Smith to Sashin Tandulkar grace its fairways has undergone the most recent facelift in nearly 20 years which saw each green renovated to both increase and improve the playing surfaces.

Director of Agronomy, and project lead Matthew Perry said “we have recreated the original size of all 18 Majlis greens plus the practice putting green as designed by Karl Litten in the late 1980s,”

"It has resulted in a 33 percent increase in green size on average and has brought many more green side bunkers into play with the biggest green size increase of 67 percent on Hole 1."

“The greens have been rebuilt under USGA specifications, which involves layers of drainage, gravel and sand.

“The original greens of the Majlis were push-up style, using just the native sand but as agronomy knowledge and technology has advanced over the last 30 years or so, it was right to bring such a classic style course into the 21st century."

The course, measuring over 7,400 yards from the back tees has seen many changes to its backdrop appear with the emergence of the Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Lake Towers and Greens districts sprung up from the ground; but this recent update is the first to bring the iconic course to 2021 standards using the latest in agronomy technologies to deliver both sustainable and premium playing conditions. The course, which opened in 1988 earned GEO status in 2015 from Golf’s leading authority on sustainable practices, and these latest renovations further cement the club’s commitment to sustainable pracitces.

For golfers wanting to try the new-and-improved Majlis course, rounds can be booked on the Viya app from the 17th October 2021, or by booking at dubaigolf.com
