ODDC-HOLE IN ONE-MERC

A brand new Mercedes-Benz SUV will be up for grabs as the hole-in-one prize during the Omega Dubai Desert Classic that gets under way at Emirates Golf Club from February 4 to 7.

As the Official Automobile Partner of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, Gargash Enterprises, the authorized general distributor of Mercedes-Benz in Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates, will present the keys of a gleaming GLE 400 to the first golfer acing the par-3, 15th hole at the Majlis course.

In addition, Gargash Enterprises will also roll out a fleet of luxury SUVs through SIXT rent a car to chauffeur marquee players to and from the tournaments, underlining its commitment to carry on the rich Mercedes-Benz tradition of supporting professional golf.

Committed to professional golf since the 1980s, the luxury German car manufacturer's has been associated as an international partner for the Masters and the Open Championship besides being the Official Patron of the PGA of America, which boasts the Ryder Cup and the PGA Championship.

"We are excited to continue our strong partnership with the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, the region's premier golfing event, which has played a key role in positioning Dubai as a major golfing destination," said Karl-Johan Sandesjo CEO of Gargash Enterprises.

"As golf is one of the fastest growing sport in the region, our collaboration with 'golf in DUBAi' harmonises our brand values and provides us with a unique opportunity to connect with our customers in an environment that mirrors the Mercedes-Benz image and reputation," he added.

The hole-in-one prize, he said, will certainly be a talking point among players and will help draw a big gallery to the 15th hole, measuring 190 yards from the championship tee.

With the tee set at an angle to the green and pointing away to the right, the 15th hole is rated as the toughest of the par-3 holes on the Majlis course that demands much respect.

There are 150,000 holes-in-one per year from an estimated 490 million rounds of golf and the odds of a professional golfer hitting a hole in one on a par-3 hole are closer to 3,000 to 1, but the Omega Dubai Desert Classic enjoys a pretty good record of 25 holes-in-one, including three at the 15th hole, in 26 events.

"Mercedes-Benz is a big name and a big brand and it's an honour and privilege for us to have them on board," said Mohamed Juma Buamaim, vice chairman and CEO of golf in DUBAi.

"We look forward to continuing our partnership with Gargash Enterprises and I am confident it will grow stronger with time. Mercedes-Benz is synonymous with high quality, and their commitment to golf makes them a perfect fit for our tournaments," he added.

"I wish good luck to all players and look forward to seeing another golfer drive away with a brand new Mercedes-Benz car."
